Reviews
The food was pretty good. I had one of the bowls with beef, and the beef was very tender and yummy. Other girls got ceviche, but they weren’t impressed.
Our waiter was very friendly and attentive.
Overall, the place gets pretty loud in the evening. We were there on Tuesday night for a girls night out, and we could barely hear each other talking if not sitting next to each other.
We have been excited to try this place. We were greeted with smiles and quickly sat to a very busy restaurant. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.
While the place looks great, we had a difficult time carrying a conversation due to the noise. We couldn't even hear the music. It appears this is an issue as we noticed acoustic panels throughout the restaurant. They need to hire someone that knows about acoustics to help resolve it.
We started with a draft beer and a house frozen margarita. The margarita tasted fresh but a bit bitter; it was okay. We started dinner with the Queso fundido with chorizo and the beef taquitos. They provided their salsa trio which were tasty. The server explained each salsa in detail.
The queso fundido tasted okay; the queso was a bit dense; we had to use a fork to scoop the queso as the accompanying tortillas couldn't scoop it. The tortillas were very dry; it was tough biting into them and they had no flavor; a sprinkle of Kosher salt on them would go far.
The taquitos were also very dry and bland. I would recommend topping them with some pico-de-gallo in addition to the lettuce.
We ordered the Pollo Poblano and the Costra (Quesadilla) Pollo Pastor Con Queso. The chicken on the pollo Poblano was very tender and flavorful and so we're the potatoes and mushrooms. Although, the mole marinade did not come through on the chicken and the yellow rice was unpalatable. The rice was hard and lumpy at the same time; it had no flavor. It looked like microwave rice. The Pollo Pastor con Queso Quesadilla was okay; it had very little chicken and hardly any cheese. We took off one of the tortilla layers and ate like a taco.
We finished by sharing the chocoflan. It was tasty but rather thin. A flan traditionally has much more height which could be made for the price.
We finished with two more cocktails, a White Russian and a LIT; they were as expected.
We would have ordered many more drinks but while our server was very friendly, he was inattentive. Our drinks ran dry and we kept stacking plates. We had to ask a passing server for small plates as we were sharing all the dishes.
We were disappointed with the place; the food, drinks nor service really stood out. Plus, the noise made it unpleasant to be in.
We might revisit; although, my guest isn't too inclined to do so. Perhaps we'll try their tacos but next time we'll be seating at the bar and we definitely won't be trying the same dishes.
I can't recommend this place at this time; there are currently better places to choose from.
Great food and service. Atmosphere was great but you know those modern aesthetics don’t filter enough room noise, so noise sensitive people beware. Go at lunch or afternoon because the food is serious great!
Park in the hotel deck. Much easier.
I’ll be back there.
Conejo had a great menu. Food was so fresh and good. Appetizers were so good. Main entrees excellent. Churros dessert out of this world good. They have spicy and non spicy food too and mixed drinks were good too. Make reservations as they get full quickly. We plan to go back again.
Had an amazing time here last night. The atmosphere is enough to get high marks, but the food puts it on another level. All the apps and tacos we tried were definitely ones I'd get again. A favorite of the meal was the horchata ice cream... Amazing! Would recommend the visit if in the area and even worth the drive across town.
A wonderful addition to the Richmond restaurant family. The menu has a wide variety of options featuring easily shared small plates. The tortillas are milled from heirloom corn and made locally. The flavors are intense, which I think encourages you to share a plate with another person so you aren't overwhelmed by it all. We sat on the outdoor patio on a cold day where the heaters and wind screens did a good job of shielding us from the weather. Unfortunately we did not have room for the excellent looking desserts. That alone is a good enough reason to return.
My dining partner and I ate here on a very pleasant Saturday evening. The restaurant has a very cool vibe and was pretty packed on the night we went. We were able to go in late fall during a slightly warm day and had a lovely time on the patio.
The hostess staff was on top of their jobs and seated us promptly. The waitstaff were very nice, if somewhat inexperienced. Many of the staff weren’t quite clear what their roles were and we ended up being ignored at our table for about 15 minutes before someone figured out that we had been seated.
Cocktails were good. I enjoyed the cucumber jalapeño margarita. It was very spicy, so be careful if that is not to your taste. The classic margarita on the rocks was fine.
We started with the queso fundido. Rather than a cheese dip, it was more of a semi solid cheesy puck served in a small cast-iron ramekin. I’ve never eaten a cheese dip with a knife and fork, but maybe that is the style they prefer here. It was accompanied by rather thick and toothsome tortilla chips that appeared to have been house made.
We then tried the tostadas de pescado. The flavors were OK, but the tostadas again were very heavy and thick.
We then had the taco baja with fish accompanied with the birria chicken taco. Both of the corn tortillas were pretty dry and broke apart when trying to eat the tacos. The fish was overwhelmingly fishy and neither of us finished our portions. The birria taco was bland and the consommé was under seasoned.
We probably would’ve stopped at this point, but we had already ordered the pastor con queso quesadilla. The flour tortilla was again hard and dry, and the filling was pasty and underseasoned.
We will probably not return for another meal at Conejo. Possibly pop in for drinks at the bar before heading somewhere else for dinner.
We love this place. Its got a great vibe, great drinks and unique dishes. The pork tacos and the Nopal Sopes were delicious. The sides of beet salad, corn and the roasted sweet potatoes were all outstanding. Took off a star for the shrimp tacos which was tasteless because it came with practically no toppings on it. The place was too busy for us to flag our server to fix it. Another reason for taking off the star was the indifferent service.
But all in all a great place to go with friends. We will be back.
